At CAL SMACNA’s 52nd Annual Convention’s President Luncheon, Angie Simon, President of Western Allied Mechanical, Inc., received the 2018 Ed Banks Memorial Award for Contractor of the Year.

Assembly Member Catharine Baker has introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution 182 to memorialize “Women in Construction Week”. The measure would recognize the week of March 4, 2018 through March 10, 2018 as Women in Construction Week in order to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry.

Last week the California Energy Commission (CEC) held a multi-day workshop to develop revisions to the Building Energy Efficiency Standards contained in the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24. This pre-rulemaking workshop is part of a public process that precedes a formal regulatory adoption in early 2018 with an effective date of January 1, 2020.

GetREAL, a coalition of business, labor and educators who believe California schools should provide a balanced education combining academic studies and industry-relevant career technical education (CTE), applauds the California Assembly for holding a Joint Informational hearing to discuss the future of high school CTE in Buena Park on Monday, October 2.

The Office of the State Treasurer recently released a press release pertaining to Proposition 51 funding.

Proposition 51 was heavily supported by CAL SMACNA contractors and passed by voters last November despite being openly opposed by Governor Brown.
