Austin, Texas — On October 21, 2019 the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) announced Carmen Koo, president of Applied Air Conditioning, Inc., as the Contractor Legislative Advocate of the Year at its 76th Annual Convention. This annual award is the highest legislative honor a contractor may earn within the association and is given to contractors in recognition of exceptional effort and unsurpassed leadership in legislative and political action. Koo’s activism makes a difference in SMACNA’s lobbying work and she is well-deserving of the award.
“When we select a member for this highly regarded award, we look across the country and seek the input of our industry leadership. With her dedication to SMACNA’s legislative, political, and industry efforts, it is no surprise that Carmen Koo is this year’s Contractor Legislative Advocate,” said Vince Sandusky, SMACNA’s Chief Executive Officer. “Carmen has spent countless hours creating a successful business while also solidifying her role as a legislative activist for SMACNA. Her receipt of this honor is fitting for all of her hard work.”
As a member of SMACNA of Southern California, Koo is a dynamic force in promoting the association’s political and legislative goals and providing solutions to industry problems. She has also served on countless committees. As one of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Political Action Committee’s (SMAC PAC) most active Congressional Insiders Club members, Koo inspires others to be more involved. In fact, her advocacy inspired her local chapter to increase its fundraising status. Koo has also made a lasting impact on many political leaders in Washington, D.C. and in her hometown of Sacramento, California. Her efforts have played a critical role in addressing public contracting payment reform, pension reform, infrastructure policies, and wage enforcement legislation.
